Nachos @ Blue Haven

Restaurant: Blue Haven
Type: In-Betweeners
Price: $10.00
Ingredients: House Made Tortilla Chips, Hand Layered with Cheddar, Mozzarella, Black Olives and Jalapenos, Pico de Gallo, Guacamole and Sour Cream

Rating: 6

Brief Description: These nachos satisfied, but could've used a tad more TLC. The chips were home-made as advertised and tasty but the toppings were sparse. The two tablespoons of salsa on the side was a bit insulting as these nachos would've benefited from more and not less. In fact, drop the beans, which only added blandness, and add more salsa and pico de gallo.

Rating: 5
Description: good portion size. Beans make the chos a little bland.

6.30.2008: Nachos at Rhong-Tiam

Restaurant: Rhong-Tiam
Location: 541 LaGuardia Place, NYC (Btw Bleecker and West 3rd Streets)
Type: Thai Nachos
Ingredients: Minced shrimp and chicken in coconut dipping served with crispy shrimp.
Cost: $5
Rating: 2

Brief Description: These are the most interesting chips and salsa nachos I've had! The ingredients were fresh and the dipping sauce was scrumptious. These still do not constitute a superb nacho platter, but they are definitely worth higher than a 1 for flavors alone.

5.15.2008: Nachos at Half Pint

Restaurant: Half Pint

Location: 76 West 3rd Street @ Thompson
Type: "Nachos"
Ingredients: Homemade tortilla chips topped with melted cheeses, black beans, guacamole, sour cream & salsa
Cost: $7.95
Rating: 6

Brief Description: There were fair-to-good bar nachos. Great presentation and plentiful toppings. However, half-way through the nacho tasting all those plentiful toppings were gone leaving dry and bland chips. Despite the low rating, they were good enough to eat two plates when accompanied with the many half pints!

5.7.2008: Nachos at Gonzalez y Gonzalez

Restaurant: Gonzalez y Gonzalez

Location: 625 Broadway (between Houston and Bleecker)
Type: Large Sonoran Chicken Nachos
Ingredients: Topped with three cheeses, jalapeños, beans, and chicken
Cost: $13.95
Rating: 7

Brief Review: Terrific portion size and cheesy. However, the beans added a bland taste to the nachos and I would have preferred if the nachos were topped with guacamole and sour cream, rather than on the side.

4.2.2008: Nachos at Murphy and Gonzalez

Restaurant: Murphy and Gonzalez
Location: 21 Waverly Place (between Mercer and Greene), NYC
Type: Nachos Gonzalez

Ingredients: Tortilla chips, cheddar cheese, tomato, guacamole, chicken, refried beans, and jalapeños.
Cost: $7.50 + $2 (for chicken)
Rating: 6
Brief Review: There nachos were the perfect size, but the toppings were very separate from one another. Plus they were dry and lacked cheese. The sides of pico de gallo and guacamole were nice, but would I would have preferred the toppings on top of the nachos.

2.22.2008 Nachos at Bamboleo

Restaurant: Bamboleo
Location:
170 Bleecker Street (corner of Sullivan), NYC
Type: Large House Nachos (with Chicken)
Ingredients: Corn chips, melted cheddar cheese, jalapeños, sour cream, pico de gallo, guacamole, carrots, chicken, and refried beans.
Price: $10.95
Rating: 7

Brief Review: Very good nachos. The portion size was perfect for two.The integration of ingredients was pretty good, however the flavors were a little bland.
I wouldn't recommend drinks other than beer. They have a variety of nachos to select (ultra nachos, spinach nachos, mexican nachos, nachos with the works, house nachos). We also tried the Spinach Nachos, which ended up being glorified chips and salsa nachos, just instead with spinach and melted cheese.

2.15.2008 Nachos at Quantum Leap

Restaurant: Quantum Leap
Location: 226 Thompson Street, NYC
Type: Blue Corn Nachos (Vegetarian)
Ingredients: Corn chips, melted cheddar cheese, jalapeños, tofu chilie, sour cream, pico de gallo, guacamole, and red onion.
Price: $8.95
Rating: 8

Brief Review: These are best nachos I've had in February!
The veggie chilie had a nice smoky sausage taste. The integration of ingredients was perfect. The portion size was a little too small for two to share. The big negative was that Quantum Leap doesn't serve beer, the beverage of choice to accompany any nacho tasting.

Second Review: Wow! The portion size improved from my last review! More sour cream and guacamole. These nachos were even yummier the second time around!

2.6.2008 Nachos at El Charro Espanol

Restaurant: El Charro Espanol
Location: 4 Charles Street, NYC
Type: Nachos
Ingredients: Corn tortilla topped jack cheese and diced jalapeños.
Cost: $7.95
Rating: 3

Brief Review: Pizza nachos again!!! One deep fried corn tortilla covered with melted jack cheese
. These could've been worse for pizza nachos. At least the ingredients were evenly balanced.

1.30.2008 Nachos at Maracas

Restaurant: Maracas Mexican Bar and Grill
Location: 33 Greenwich Avenue, NYC
Type: Stacked Nachos with Camerones
Ingredients: Corn tortilla triangles topped with refried beens, cheddar/jack cheeses, and sliced jalapeños, sour cream and pico de gallo.
Cost:
$9.95
Rating: 2

Brief Review: The dreaded "pizza nachos." Eight delicately covered chips slathered in greasy cheese. There's a reason why the word nachos is plural.
