Nachos @ Diablo Royale

Where: Diablo Royale

Brief Description: Delicious homemade chips and yummy fresh guacamole! Portion size was a little small and these chos could have used a bit more cheese.

Nachos at La Parrilla

Restaurant: La Parrilla
Location: Rosas Retorno 9, Cancún, Mexico
Ingredients: Jalapenos, cheese, chicken, tomato, tortilla chips, and refried beans.
Rating: 7

Description: Great authentic homemade chips. The peppered, chopped chicken was different, surprising, and tasty. Good amount of cheese. Some naked chips and no guac, sour cream, or salsa - these were au naturale! The sliced tomato was a nice touch. Portion size was medium at best. Worth it, but still desperately seeking the diez nachos in Cancun. Thanks SC for the recommend!

Nachos at Cheesecake Factory

Restaurant: Cheesecake Factory
Location: Menlo Park, NJ
Type: Factory Nachos
Ingredients: Crispy tortilla chips covered with melted cheese, guacamole, sour cream, and salsa with spicy chicken.

Cost: $10.95
Rating: 7

Description: Shockingly the Cheesecake Factory uses homemade chips. It's also a huge serving, although I wouldn't expect anything less for a Cheesecake Factory in a mall in NJ.  One complaint: don't leave your the nacho tasters hanging wtih dry chips at the end. Add more toppings!

Nachos at Fire Alley

Restaurant: Fire Alley
Location: Hershey, PA
Type: Seafood Nachos
Ingredients: Shaved potatoes, brie cheese, lobster, monterrey jack cheese, cheddar cheese, rock shrimp, jalapenos, lettuce and tomato.

Cost: $8.00
Rating: 7

Brief Review: These nachos rate high on creativity because of their homemade potato (NOT TORTILLA) chips. Seafood was good but nachos were seriously missing salsa and real integration between the cheese and other toppings. Chips didn't hold up as well as tortilla chips would have. Great staff, service, and ambiance.

Nachos at Croxley Ales

Restaurant: Croxley Ales
Location: 28 Avenue B, NYC
Type: Nachos Supreme with Chicken
Ingredients: Tortillas, refried beans, salsa, sour cream, olives jalapenos, tomatoes, and cheese (cheddar and cheese whiz).
Cost: $7.95 + 4.00 for chicken
Rating: 7

Brief Review: Great portion size, lots of toppings. Interesting combination of shredded cheddar and cheese whiz. Chips were disappointing. Lots of "queen mother chips" and too many of naked chips left at the end.

3.22.2009: Nachos at Baja Burrito and Cantina

Restaurant: Baja Burrito and Cantina

Location: 2685 Killington Road, Killington, VT
Type: Baja Nachos
Ingredients: Corn tortillas smothered in a combo of jack and cheddar cheese topped with salsa, sour cream, and scallions,
Cost: $6.95 + 1.50 for chicken
Rating: 7

Brief Review: Great chips, huge portion size, and lots of cheese. A perfect combination, but the dish lacked flavor and spice. These nachos could have used some jalapeños, salt, and they forgot the salsa.

Nachos @ LookOut

In 2011
Where: Lookout Bar and Grill, 2190 Killington Road, Killington, VT
What:  Nachos Grande - Crispy tortillas chips piled high with refried beans, black olives, tomato, jalapeno peppers, and cheddar cheese topped with sour cream and homemade guacamole.
How much: $7.95 (with chicken)
Rating: 7
Our take: Decent but messy nachos. Lots of topping caused some soggy chips. The Lookout skimped on the cheese, but the homemade guacamole was delicious! Average to small portion size. We went back and they were even tastier!

In 2008

12.31.2008: Nachos at Marzoni's Brick Oven and Brewing

Restaurant: Marzoni's Brick Oven and Brewing

Location: 165 Patchway Road, Duncansville, PA
Type: Brick oven nachos
Ingredients: Tri color corn chips layered with chicken Alfredo and sausage marinara topped with melted mozzarella.
Cost: $7.95 (to share)
Rating: 7

Brief Review: Overall, these were pretty yummy Italian nachos. Great use of sausage and marinara sauce. Decent portion size and nice integration of flavors. However, the chicken alfredo was overkill and the canned olives were unnecessary and tasteless.

7.24.2008: Nachos at Around the Clock

Restaurant: Around the Clock
Location:
8 Stuyvesant Street (Btw 3rd Ave & 9th Street), New York, NY
Type: Black Bean Nachos
Cost: 5.95 (for two)
Ingredients: "Homemade corn tortilla chips, vegetarian black beans, jack cheese, homemade guacamole salad and sour cream.

Rating: 7

Brief Review: Delicious homemade chips that were perfectly crispy and not over salted. The nachos so yummy with lots of ingredients for dipping afterwards.

5.7.2008: Nachos at Gonzalez y Gonzalez

Restaurant: Gonzalez y Gonzalez

Location: 625 Broadway (between Houston and Bleecker)
Type: Large Sonoran Chicken Nachos
Ingredients: Topped with three cheeses, jalapeños, beans, and chicken
Cost: $13.95
Rating: 7

Brief Review: Terrific portion size and cheesy. However, the beans added a bland taste to the nachos and I would have preferred if the nachos were topped with guacamole and sour cream, rather than on the side.

3.27.2008: Nachos at Rodeo Bar

Restaurant: Rodeo Bar

Location: 375 3rd Avenue (at 27th Avenue), NYC
Type: Black Bean Chicken Chili Nachos
Ingredients: Chicken chili, jack cheese, pico de gallo, cilantro, sour cream, guacamole, and jalapeños.
Cost: $8.95
Rating: 7

Brief Review: These nachos were pretty tasty and a great portion size. Enough sour cream and guacamole. They didn't skimp on the cheese or toppings. These were not the best nachos I've ever had, but they were yummy enough that I would go back for a second plate if in the neighborhood.

3.12.2008 Nachos at La Cocina

Restaurant: La Cocina
Location: 217 West 85th Street (Between Broadway and Amsterdam), NYC
Type: Nachos Supreme

Ingredients: "A mount of corn tortilla chips" topped with stewed chicken, cheddar cheese, sour cream and jalapeños
Cost: $8.95
Rating: 7

Brief Review: Very tasty nachos. The stewed chicken added an excellent flavor. They had no right to describe the portion size as a "mount of corn tortilla chips," it was more like a small "mound."

2.22.2008 Nachos at Bamboleo

Restaurant: Bamboleo
Location:
170 Bleecker Street (corner of Sullivan), NYC
Type: Large House Nachos (with Chicken)
Ingredients: Corn chips, melted cheddar cheese, jalapeños, sour cream, pico de gallo, guacamole, carrots, chicken, and refried beans.
Price: $10.95
Rating: 7

Brief Review: Very good nachos. The portion size was perfect for two.The integration of ingredients was pretty good, however the flavors were a little bland.
I wouldn't recommend drinks other than beer. They have a variety of nachos to select (ultra nachos, spinach nachos, mexican nachos, nachos with the works, house nachos). We also tried the Spinach Nachos, which ended up being glorified chips and salsa nachos, just instead with spinach and melted cheese.

1.23.2008 Nachos at El Porton

Restaurant: El Porton

Location:
3151 Broadway, NYC (Btw LaSalle & Tiemann Pl)
Type: Tinga de Pollo
Ingredients: Roasted Chicken Breast in a Smoky Chipolte Tomato Sauce.
Cost: $8
Rating: 7

Brief Review: Spicy. Light crispy chips. Guacamole was delicious! Needed more integration between the ingredients. Could have used some salsa. Creative use of jalapeños.

2nd Review: Even better the second time! See picture above. These are a solid 7 tasty nachos. The lettuce and carrots were very creative.
