Where: McGillicuddy's, Main Street, New Paltz, NY What: Nachos Rating: 4
Brief Review: Nice and cheesy at first. Didn't like the make ur own with sides of guac, sour cream, and salsa. Scallions and olives were a nice touch. Kinda dry. One chips holds all the topping. OMG it was a super motherchip.
Brief description: Good flavors, but only enough for one. Crispy on the edges and great to have sour cream, salsa and guacamole on top, but all the beans made the nachos implode into a soggy mess.
So, so nachos at the open. Not much different from last year. Round chips, cheese sauce, canned olives, and generous helping of sour cream. Chips were soggy 1/2 way through.
Giving them a 4. Definitely stadium nachos. Good for your nacho fix!
Restaurant: San Loco Location: 124 Second Avenue, btw 7th and St. Marks Place Type: Macho Nachos Menu Description: Tortilla chips piled high with shredded cheddar, lettuce, pico de gallo, guacamole, jalapenos, sour cream and cheese. Cost: $8.10 (with chipotle chicken) Rating: 4
Brief Review: Nothing at all special about these nachos served up in foil pan. Pretty much glorified chips and salsa nachos with some extra toppings. Ingredients were generally cold. Boring.
Restaurant: Juan and Jamies
Location: Phoenix, AZ
Type: Nachos Ingredients: Chips, chicken, pico de gallo, olives, scallions, guacamole
Cost: $5.75
Rating: 4
Brief Review: These were totally faux chos. You'd think a place with Juan in the name would know how to make a cho or two. They used frozen chicken and canned olives, which wouldn't be so bad if they had just covered it with cheese, but they even skimped on the cheese.
Restaurant: Tootsies Location: London, UK Type: Loaded Nachos Ingredients: Fresh guacamole, sour cream, turtle bean salsa, grated cheese, and jalapeños. (Added chili beef). Cost: £6.75 Rating: 4
Brief Review: These UK nachos were watery, sloppy, and small. These nachos are in a whole new category of "make your own nachos". The guac, sour cream, salsa, and beef chili were separated very meticulously across the chips. Tootsies recommended a nice Pinot Grigio to accompany the nachos (as shown above)
Restaurant: The Knickerbocker Location: Altoona, PA Type: Nachos Grande Ingredients: Homemade tortillas covered with their homemade chili, melted cheese, jalapeño peppers, scallions, homemade salsa, and sour cream. Cost: $7.25 Rating: 4
Brief Review: AKA, heart attack nachos. The Knick took nachos to a super unhealthy level. The chips were double or triple fried slathered in cheese whiz, jalapeños sour cream, and probably drizzled with oil. Despite the oil induced chips, the homemade salsa, chili, and generous portion of jalapeños made these nachos pretty flavorful.
Restaurant: Stillwater Location: 78 E 4th St, NYC Type: Nachos Ingredients: Tortilla chips, guacamole, sour cream, salsa, and jalapeños. Cost: ? Rating: 4 Brief Review: Disappointing nachos. The key toppings that added a bit a flavor to these dry and boring nachos were on the side (guac, sour cream, and salsa). The portion size was miniature and the chips were out of a bag.
Brief Description: The portion size was much bigger than mini, however even a large plate of these nachos couldn't up the rating from a 4 to a 5. The cheese was overcooked on the chips. The unimaginative toppings were skimpy and carelessly dumped on top of the chips.
Brief Description: The cheese whiz was a huge disappointment and an unforgivable error. Overall, the flavors were a little thin aside from the jalapeños. I expected more from Papacito.
Restaurant: Manaña Location: Lausanne, Switzerland Type: "Super Nachos" sans chilli con carne Ingredients: Tortilla chips, swiss cheese, beans, jalapeños, cilantro, sour cream, salsa, and a single olive Cost: ?? Rating: 4 Brief Description: Stale chips, fake guacamole (pretty sure it wasn't fresh and came from a box). No sour cream, but at least they understood the concept of nachos.
